Time Management

Author: Josh Riverside

Time is probably the most invaluable thing we have. Everything on earth is broadly governed by time, and it is always in short supply. Like all other precious things that seem scarce in their availability, proper Time Management skills are needed to use one's time and make the most of it.

When one talks about Time Management, one looks for a set of tools and systems that work together to create a proper synergy to help one get the best value out of this rare resource and accomplish the desired objective. Time Management involves a very broad subject, starting from areas concerning one's day-to-day activities to one's long-term goals.

Time Management at all levels, both personal and professional, envisages planning, without which no progress can be made. There should be a basic objective or set of objectives depending upon the context it is being talked about. To achieve this within the given time frame is the biggest challenge one is faced with.

Everybody is busy in doing something or the other. We find that some people are more successful in achieving the desired goal, while others toil but their efforts bear less fruits. It is primarily the 80:20 Rule that is prevalent here. This principle propounds that typically, 80% of the focused efforts generate only 20% of results. The remaining 80% of results are concerned with only 20% of the focused efforts. Though the ratio is not always 80:20, the conclusion is that we need to have productive efforts, so that our time as well as our energy is spent on the right kind of job to maximize the output.

Many people complain of 'too much work load' and remain busy throughout the day. But at the end of the day, these people achieve very little because they are not focused on the right things.

With the advancement of age, various management tools are being involved to offer a structured approach for those who need to manage time in the most productive way. People who approach the issue properly, with a proper set of techniques, are obviously the greatest achievers in every walk of life. Truly enough, no one on earth can afford to take this issue lightly if he or she has to make his or her existence worthwhile. One is constantly reminded of time being directly related to the results. Thus, what matters is the higher proportion of results achieved in relation to the time spent on that.
