So far in this mini-series weve been talking about goals and objectives, analyzing time, planning the use of time and how we can use our time to accomplish more tasks over a 24 hour period. And that got me to thinking have you ever noticed that most successful, busy people like doctors, lawyers, business executives and other hard working people seem to have the best groomed lawns? These people have these incredibly busy schedules and yet find time to prune every detail about their home and garden. They are clean, organized and productive and their environment reflects these inner characteristics of their personality. On the other hand, people who have the most time on their hands like the unemployed, those on social programs, etc, tend to be unorganized with homes that need painting, weeds that need pulling and a yard that needs cutting. They have excess time to do what the organized and busy people do but they dont do it. Once again, personal environment tends to reveals the inner character of people. You see, God gives everybody a free acre called life and we are given the responsibility to care for our acre. What we do with our lives will dictate the quality of our acresome of us have beautiful green grass, well groomed acre with pretty flowers and highly productive gardens of vegetables all in nice rows everything organized, neat, clean and nice. And others well, their acre is a messweeds grown up everywhere, fences that are broken and the lawn needs cutting. In place of flowers there are weeds. In place of vegetables, there are weeds. What dictates one persons acre being well cared for and anothers a disaster? As I sit here contemplating that answer I tend to think it is attitude and not money or position or fame money does not buy personal pride. Money cant buy character. Money does not buy a good attitude. Some may say; if I had a good job I would have a good attitude! Isnt it more truthful to say that if a person had a good attitude they would increase their chances of getting a good job? What I am trying to get at here is we all have an acre we need to review. I think its safe to say that we all have some weeds to pullsome fences to build-some vegetables to plant. Some yard work to do on our acre you might say. And that is what personal review is all about; analyzing where we are, how we got here, where we like to go and how we are going to get there. And personal review has to be honestthey say, If you do what you did you will get what you got. I like that saying because its true. Do you want to change your life situation? Stop doing the things that got you where you are todayits cause and effectthe old wood stove angleput in a little wood, get a little heat. Put in a LOT of wood, get a lot of heat. Goal setting requires you to THINK and goal accomplishment requires you to DO. There are really only two choices a person can make about this issuepass or play, change or stay the same. You have the power to make decisionsto take positive action in the right direction, take no action or negative action in the wrong directionthe choice is yours. The point of goal setting is to set some benchmarks, things to shoot for. You might fail to achieve all your goals this year but if you set 10 goals and only achieve 3 isnt that better then not setting any at all? Aim for the moon, you might just hit a cloud If you are want some FREE worksheets to help you through this discussion on goals and objectives, send us an email request at talktosmartbooks@smart67.com and we'll send them to your email address-these worksheets are in PDF file format.
