Ole Rita is Definitely a Texas Size Hurricane

Author: Lance Winslow

Hurricane Katrina at one point nearly filled up the screen on our Television Sets as it fit nicely into the Gulf of Mexico, but Hurricane Rita is nearly the size of Texas and could be its own country or even it's own continent. Texas is 660 miles across and God help you if you ever have to drive across it. Well, folks that is exactly what Hurricane Rita is planning to do, only she plans on driving thru it. Hurricane Rita is over 415 Miles across with rain bands up to 550 miles and is almost large enough to cover the entire Great State of Texas.

What kind of damage can we expect on a worst-case scenario from Super Storm Cat Five Hurricane Rita? Well, indeed the damage will be almost unimaginable even after seeing first hand the damage in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast; 500,000 homes flooded; 400,000 job loses; 80 Billion to 111 Billion Dollar Storm and massive disruptions in oil supplies and production, some permanently. That is the worst case, but that is enough combined with Hurricane Katrina to send our nation into a downward business cycle.

If you recall little Tropical Storm Allison submerged 18-wheeler trucks on Interstate 10. Hurricane Rita could in fact deluge the city that much. So we will have major disruptions in rail and truck transportation and closer of several more ports for a while.

Are there any safe ways to get out of Houston? They have the I-45 now with both sides going only North; I-10 is jammed all the way to San Antonio. Only masochists are attempting to go east on Interstate 10 and since we do not know where landfall will be most are not going south, everyone is going North or Northwest. This Hurricane Rita is ready to rip thru Texas. God help Y'all, best get out of Dodge. Think on it.
