When you were growing up did you have brothers and sisters that you had to share everything with? How about wearing hand me down clothes, or toys that they have grown out of? I did. I often sit and think about the years of growing up in a little country town, with one street going in the town and you take the same one out. I have four sisters and two brothers. We had to share everything with each other. With seven kids in the family, there wasn't much money to go around for bills and food much less nice toys. We had the old tire swing, and a tree swing. We had one bicycle to share among each other. Most of our toys were a bunch of sticks tied together to make our doll and a piece of rag to make a decent dress. The baby bottle was another stick and we would pretend we had it stuck in the mouth, which was a hole in the stick. Oh those were the days. Kids now a days look at you like you were crazy, when you tell them about it. I remember one Christmas when all of us got a Timex watch and two games, Sorry and Monopoly, that we had to share with each other. We would have so much fun with those. The best part was the stocking with the fruit and nuts. One orange, one tangerine and a handful of nuts. If you had a Christmas like that now a days your kids would think you were nuts. They don't know what it is like to have to do with what you have. Oh and about the watches..My brother had lost his and ask to borrow mine because he was going out on a date and had a curfew and wanted to make sure he got home on time. Well needless to say that was the end of my watch. He broke it. I cried my heart out. That watch was my prize procession. I thought I was high class because I had a Timex watch.....a Timex watch! I laugh today about it. I wish we could send the kids of today back to live just one day of my life. They would have second thoughts about wanting all the time. Yes I am saying the kids today are spoiled. And who spoiled them? We did! |
