Using Hypnosis To Help You Quit Smoking

Author: Amber Jonas

Using hypnosis, or hypnotherapy, to help someone quit smoking is an effective way to achieve rapid results. Through hypnosis, a trained hypnotherapist can help alleviate symptoms associated with smoking by treating the psychological characteristics of smoking.

Hypnosis aids in relaxation, giving the person being hypnotized the ability to use the power of suggestion to create a heightened awareness. This permits the person to tap into their subconscious mind, visualize different realities and results, and ultimately produce those realities in their lives. It is a technique highly sought after when someone needs help to quit smoking.

As powerful as the physical addiction of smoking, so too is the psychological addiction. After trying many various methods of stop smoking programs that focus on the physical addition achieving unsatisfactory results, many people turn to hypnosis for help.

Using hypnosis to help smokers quit smoking has had proven results showing it is one of the most effective ways to stop smoking. Studies show an effective success rate for a smoker who receives a single session hypnosis treatment. The rate of complete success is much higher in those who receive multiple sessions.

The hypnotherapist helps the patient relax with suggesting comments, taking the patient to a trance-like state, making the mind easily susceptible to non-smoking statements and suggestions to help the subject loose cravings for cigarettes.

Suggestions are made to the patient like, imagining themselves as non-smokers, remembering the first time they smoked a cigarette and suggesting they see themselves saying no to their first cigarette, dealing with subconscious thoughts about cigarettes and eating, making suggestions regarding withdrawal symptoms, smoking out of habit or emotional status and so on.

Using hypnosis to help you quit smoking is like any form of treatment you seek. Talk to your doctor first. He will be able to suggest options for you and direct you to a licensed hypnotherapist or hypnosis clinic in your area.

Upon your first visit make sure you ask pertinent questions related to your therapy. Educate yourself to ensure satisfactory results. Be as honest with the hypnotherapist as you can be. Your answers will help him help you quicker with more long lasting results.
