Elizabeth Taylor - Mini Bio

Author: Ugur Akinci

The gorgeous and talented actress, and a survivor of many mishaps in her private life, Dame Elizabeth Taylor was born in Hampstead, England on 2/27/1932.

Her father was a London art dealer and gallery owner from St. Louis. She was discovered as a child actress for her beauty and immediately offered attractive roles in various films.

Starring in a total of 70 movies, she is best remembered for "Suddenly Last Summer (1959)", "The Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958)", "Giant (1956)", "Cleopatra (1963)", and "The Taming of the Shrew (1967)".

Elizabeth Taylor was nominated for the Academy Award for a total of 5 times in 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, and 1967 and won it in 1967 for "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf? (1966)".

Here are some trivia facts about Elizabeth Taylor:

1) She had to compete and beat both Lana Turner and Grace Kelly for the part of Maggie in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.".

2) In 1997, she had surgery to have a brain tumor removed.

3) While shooting Cleaopatra (1963) she got so sick that at one point she was declared officially dead..

My favorite Taylor quote is: "I'm not living with you! We occupy the same cage, that's all!" (as Maggie in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof)
